System Features
The vision system function is to control 100% of the pieces in the assembly line, identifying the following defects:
In order that the filter performs its function properly, it is necessary that the network is welded to a plastic body. The vision system measures the network edge distance in order to verify that this is incorporated in the filter
(Figure 1)
During the caps assembly phase , it may happen that they are not properly inserted, compromising the filter operation . Through the filter rotation and the images acquisition with linear cameras, the vision system reconstructs the product development, and it is able to detect cap lower line oscillations, symptom that the piece has not been correctly inserted
(Figure 2)
Moreover, the cap is sealed with a glue that is to be distributed in a homogeneous manner and in sufficient quantity along the entire circumference of the body.
(Figure 3)
The filter main body is made of two transparent cylinders which are joined by inserting one into the other. During this operation it may happen that plastic or network fragments exiting from the product shape.

System composition
The system is made of two cameras and two linear matrix cameras that frame simultaneously a filters pair in the control station. In this station, the filters are placed in rotation on its own axis, allowing the inspection along the entire cylindrical surface.
The system heart is the software, designed and developed at our laboratories. The functions and the basic algorithms are taken from the result of specific libraries in the vision field, while the other features, used for this application, have been created specifically to provide a “turnkey” product.
Another very important component is the lighting device which, as often happens in the quality control systems, was designed and tailored to illuminate and enhance the defects to be detected
