Purpose of the system
The purpose of the system is to verify the presence of the lenses on their supports, to inhibit varnishing of the empty support. The painting system consists of two lines, each with support that can hold from one to four lenses.
The lenses are placed on a support of the exact dimensions of the inner surface, so that a different support is required for each type of lens. Numerous types of lenses are simultaneously present on the production line, and it is not possible to know in advance the model of the framed lens by the cameras.
The system is based on two cameras . Each camera checks the presence of the lenses on a support transport line.
The figure above shows the island of varnishing, with the two cameras above the support transport line.
The system processes the images, and with an I/O signal controls the activation / deactivation of the painting device.
Working principle
This is achieved thanks to a specific lighting fixture and algorithms specifically designed to make the system stable and reliable. The principle is quite as simple as ingenious: when the support is blank, the light is captured by a filter, and when there is the lens, the light is deflected towards the camera (Figures 2 and 3).
Figure n.5 shows the user interface of the system, where the area of the lens found by the software is highlighted in green The red and green LEDs show the output of the system so that it is immediately visible to the operator without the need of looking at the monitor .Another important feature is the automatic control of the illuminator operation. An image is captured in the empty space between two supports and with the camera the actual lighting of all LEDs provided is verified. If the number of lit LEDs is not as the one expected, the smartcamera signals the anomaly to the PLC and to the operator.
This control is shown in Figure n.5.
